Day 1: Arad and Timișoara
On November 28, 2026 (Saturday), we depart from Szeged in the morning from the car park at Szeged Plaza. After crossing the border at Nagylak, we arrive in Arad, a city on the banks of the Mureș River, where we explore the most important sights of its historic centre, home to nearly 150,000 inhabitants. Our sightseeing tour includes St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral, György Zala’s famous Statue of Liberty, the elegant City Hall designed by Ödön Lechner, the Art Nouveau Palace of Culture, the Ioan Slavici Theatre, and the Monument to the Thirteen Martyrs, located near the fortress. After some free time in the city centre, we continue to Timișoara, the heart of the Banat region and European Capital of Culture in 2023. Near the historic centre, we visit the New Millennium Reformed Centre, designed by renowned Hungarian architect Imre Makovecz. During our walking tour, we also see the Opera House, St. George’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral and Huniade Castle. We then enjoy free time at Timișoara’s enchanting Advent market, where we can soak up the festive atmosphere and explore the seasonal stalls. Afterwards, we begin our journey home, with arrival in Szeged expected in the evening.
