Day 1: Moravian Karst and Sightseeing in Brno
We will depart from Szeged, from the Pláza car park, in the morning of 10 April 2027 (Saturday). Around midday, we will arrive at the marvellous natural wonders near Brno, the most important city in Moravia: the Punkva Caves and the Macocha Abyss. What makes the cave visit particularly special is that we will first explore its beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations on foot. The sight of the gigantic Macocha Abyss, located deeper within the cave system, is truly breathtaking. In fact, the gorge is a sinkhole within the Moravian Karst cave system. At 138.5 metres deep, it is the deepest sinkhole of this type in Central Europe. We will then board a boat and gently travel along the underground stream flowing through the cave system, all the way to the exit. In the afternoon, we will return to Brno. In the evening, there will be an opportunity to enjoy dinner at a local brewery and sample traditional Moravian cuisine (optional dinner). We will then check into our accommodation in Brno.
Day 2: Pernštejn Castle and Veveří Castle
After breakfast, we will visit one of Moravia’s most iconic castles, Pernštejn Castle (42 km away), a favourite location among filmmakers and historians. Within the impregnable walls of this Gothic fortress, the atmosphere of the medieval age comes vividly to life. After exploring the castle, we will continue to nearby Veveří Castle. Once owned by King Matthias Corvinus, the castle later became one of Winston Churchill’s favourite retreats. Following our visit, we will walk to the nearby harbour on the Svratka River, where we will enjoy a scenic boat trip across the reservoir in beautiful surroundings. Our boat will take us all the way to Brno. We will then board our coach and begin our journey home, with arrival in Szeged expected late in the evening.
